Liza had a unique ability to make people feel seen and heard. She put you at ease, she showed genuine curiosity about you, she was thoughtful and gracious.

Smiling Is Key to Life

She had a quick smile and loved little dogs that could make her laugh.

Kids Inspired Her

Children brought her great joy: her and Doug's children and grandchildren, and the work she did with families and children in Durham and Chapel Hill.

It's Fun to Have Fun and You Have to Know How

She enjoyed nothing more than a sunset and a cocktail with people she loved.

To Travel Is to Really See Yourself

Puerto Rico, the holy ruins of Tikal, the markets of Chichicastenango, a language school in Oaxaca, a chorus tour through France — the world called to her, and she always answered.

Salt & Sun

She loved the beach and boats and kisses.

Her Religion

Her religion was waking up grateful, celebrating the solstices, staying present through each day, and returning gently to this beautiful earth.

What She Believed

She believed success was an adventurous life, a family that loves without judgment, and leaving this world better than she found it — with kindness, joy, and peace.
